I have worked with children and young people for over 30 years. For the last 10 years, I have worked as a psychotherapist and counsellor both in schools, the NHS and in private practice, with young people of all ages and cultural background, and also with their parents.
I have an MA as a Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist and Counsellor. I work as a supervisor for practitioners in this field. I also worked as a teacher for over 20 years in mainstream, special schools, and alternative school provision.
I enjoy working cross culturally and take difference and diversity very seriously.
I also work with adults and am registered with BUPA, AXA, Aviva and other insurance companies. Ring for more details.
How I work
As an integrative therapist, I use the method that the client feels happiest with. For children, play is their work and is also the way they communicate their feelings, so I use play therapy, puppets, model animals, painting, clay work and other creative methods. I often work with parents too - as they are the ones who can make the difference to some young children.
Some young people enjoy using art and sand trays while others are happiest just talking one to one. Music, film and other media can be useful ways of making a connection and working through issues.
Adults usually prefer straightforward talking one-to-one but sometimes we use simple creative techniques to clarify issues.
